Blessed Generation Nyamira
In early 2008, Blessed Generation launched a third relief project in Nyamira, Western Kenya, to support victims of post-election violence. This project, developed in close collaboration with the local community, includes family-based care and a primary school.
Currently, more than 100 children are housed at BG Nyamira, with 75 residing there permanently. The primary school, established in partnership with the government, also serves children from the surrounding community, providing free education to over 600 students. BG Nyamira is working towards self-sufficiency by utilizing its own agricultural land.
Community Collaboration
Blessed Generation Nyamira maintains a strong partnership with the local community
The local government installed electricity, benefiting both BG Nyamira and the surrounding residents. A dedicated water supply was developed, providing clean drinking water to the children and nearby families.
Childcare & Reintegration
Children at BG Nyamira are cared for in small family-style homes, with a maximum of 10 children per house. They may be housed temporarily (for crisis intervention), while awaiting adoption, or permanently.
BG Nyamira collaborates with child protection authorities to reintegrate children with adoptive families whenever possible. However, in 99% of cases, Blessed Generation continues to support the children’s education even after reintegration.
Primary School Education
Blessed Generation has donated the primary school at Nyamira to the local community. Key features of the school include:
Government Partnership
Some teachers are government-funded, while BG covers the remaining staff salaries.
Additional Support
Parents contribute to the cost of an extra kindergarten teacher.
School Management
BG provides school infrastructure, books, uniforms, and other learning materials.
Inclusive Education
The school offers special facilities and support for children with intellectual disabilities.
Post-election violence left many children orphaned. At the request of the Red Cross, BG staff provided emergency shelter and aid.
A rented house in Nyamira sheltered 38 children, but a more permanent solution was needed.
KLM purser Danny Eijkelboom organized the “Jambo Lottery,” raising significant funds for new facilities.
Construction of the new complex began, and on December 9, it was officially opened by Dutch Ambassador Joost Reintjes.
A primary school was added, opening its doors on January 1, 2013.
